    RSL Queensland State Commemorative Ceremony 

    RSL Queensland invites you to this year's State Remembrance Day ceremony at Brisbane's Shrine of Remembrance in ANZAC Square. 

    Remembrance Day, 11 November, marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I. 

    Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people in Australia and many other countries pause for a minute of silent reflection in memory of those who died while in military service. 

    Join the city and the nation in remembering those who have given their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.  

    RSL Queensland stands alongside veterans and their families across Australia and recognises the invaluable contribution of all Defence Force personnel, past and present.   

    You can help keep their legacy alive by attending a service, reflecting in silence, wearing a poppy, or donating to the Poppy Appeal.

    Remembrance Day Ceremony FAQs

    The ceremony will commence at 10:30am. We recommend arriving from 10:15am to allow sufficient time to find a viewing location before proceedings begin.

    The ceremony will take place at ANZAC Square, Brisbane.

    Reserved seating is only available for invited delegates and special guests. General attendees are welcome to attend however, seating is limited and not guaranteed. Standing areas are available around ANZAC Square for those who don’t have seating.

    We recommend arriving early to secure a good viewing position, as large crowds are expected.

    As this is an outdoor event, attendees are encouraged to bring:

    • Sunscreen

    • Umbrella

    • Hat

    • Water bottle

    No. Water will not be available on site, so please bring your own water bottle and stay hydrated.

    The ceremony will proceed in most weather conditions. We recommend bringing an umbrella or raincoat if wet weather is forecast.

    Yes, attendance is free. Members of the public are invited to join us in commemorating and honouring those who have served.

    ANZAC Square is generally accessible; however, attendees with specific accessibility requirements are encouraged to contact the event organisers prior to the ceremony so appropriate assistance can be provided. Please email events@rslqld.org for further information. 

    Yes. Ann Street will be closed between 10:00am and 12:00pm to support the ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider public transport where possible.

    The ceremony is expected to run for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

    Wreath-laying during the ceremony is strictly limited to invited delegates, with one representative permitted per organisation. Members of the public who wish to lay a wreath are welcome to do so at the conclusion of the ceremony.

    Photography is permitted however, attendees are asked to be respectful and avoid disrupting the ceremony or obstructing the view of others.

    No food or refreshments will be available on site.

    Public amenities are available nearby in the Post Office Square Precinct. Attendees may wish to plan ahead before arriving at the event.
